Water leak detector and pipe locator is designed to:

  • locate power and signal cables, armored fiber optic cables, pipelines of electrically conductive materials at a depth of up to 6 m and at a distance of up to 3 km from the transmitter connection point;
  • locate cable faults;
  • inspect the ground before the excavation works;
  • search hidden wiring;
  • locate water leaks on the depth up to 3 m.

Tracing modes

Passive mode (tracing without transmitter)

Connect headphones and EMD sensor to the receiver. Use the broadband mode, 50 Hz, 100 Hz. Operation in this mode allows you to detect live power cables (broadband mode, then 50 Hz), pipelines under cathodic protection and pipelines with redirected signal (broadband mode, 100 Hz).

During operation the signal level is analyzed by the noise level in the headphones and the indicator of the receiver.

Active mode (tracing with transmitter)

Connect headphones and EMD sensor to the receiver.

The transmitter is a self-oscillating system to adjust the load (cable or pipeline).

Connect transmitter to the load. Adjust the load. Use the mode "512", "1024", "8928", "x3". Set the frequency on the receiver similar to the transmitter. Operation in this mode allows precise tracing of communications (non-energized cable lines, pipelines).

Power cable fault location (tracing with transmitter)

There are two methods to search for a power cable fault: induction (EMD) and acoustic (AD).

Connect headphones and an EMD (AD) sensor to the receiver. Connect the generator to the cable. Use the modes "512", "1024", "8928", "x3" (for the induction method); broadband, lowpass, band pass filter (for the acoustic method).

Connect headphones and AD sensor to the receiver. Use broadband, lowpass, band pass filters.

Mechanical ground vibrations from a pipeline leak are detected by an acoustic sensor. The electrical signal enters the electronic unit, then to the headphones and to the dial indicator. The operator locates the pipeline leak by the maximum signal on the indicator or by the specific noise.

Move along the pipe to the supposed place of water leakage. During the operation there will be the following indication on the screen:

  1. The signal is low on the screen and in the headphones, there is no signifi cant noise.
  2. The closer to the place of leakage the higher is the signal on the screen and the louder is the sound in the headphones.
  3. The operator is above the place of leakage, the signal is maximum.
  4. The signal is less, it means the leakage was behind.

AP-027M operation for utilities tracing

Move to the supposed utility location - an energized cable or a pipe. During the operation there will be information on the screen and sound in the headphones.

  1. The signal is low on the screen and in the headphones, it means the utility is far away from the operator.
  2. The closer to the utility the higher is the signal on the screen and the louder is the sound in the headphones.
  3. The operator is above the utility, the signal is maximum.
  4. The signal is less, it means the leakage was behind.
